Raj Patel, un autorevole amico del Buon vivere, ospite della edizione 2019, ci scrive dagli USA per testimoniare la sua vicinanza e solidarietà al nostro Paese e a tutti noi.
Ecco il suo messaggio:

Lettera in italiano

Sentiamo il vostro dolore qui negli Stati Unità, e siamo colpiti da come vi siete comportati per cercare dignità e gioia nonostante la pandemia.
Le immagini di comunità che cantano insieme sui balconi; i video dei cittadini che applaudono i servizi di emergenza; la condivisione di nuove varianti del Decameron; tutto ciò ci ricorda cosa potrebbe significare riconnetterci gli uni agli altri, con empatia nei confronti dei nostri simili.
È un mondo in cui prendersi cura degli anziani, dei bambini e degli stranieri.
Ci offre una immagine di ciò che da dovrebbe essere possibile quando usciremo da questa pandemia.
Il virus è nato in un sistema di dominio dell’uomo, un mondo nel quale abbiamo creduto di poter déforestare , uccidere, mutare e distruggere il pianeta intorno a noi senza paura delle conseguenze, perché saremmo sempre stati capaci di immaginare una tecnologia in grado di tirarci fuori dai problemi.
Questo momento non solo ci mostra la follia di questo modo di pensare, ma anche l’urgenza vitale di tornare ad una umile e onesta serie di relazioni con la rete della vita.
Questo è, alla fine, ciò di cui si è sempre occupato il Buon Vivere.
La sua lezione dovrebbe superare e proseguire ben oltre questa terribile pandemia.

We feel your pain here in the US, and we’re inspired by how you’ve managed to find dignity and joy despite the pandemic.
The images of communities singing together from balconies; video of residents applauding the emergency services; the sharing of new variants on the Decameron: all of these are a reminder of what it might be to reconnect with one another, and with empathy for our fellow beings.
It is a world of care, for elders and children and strangers.
It offers a glimpse of what might be possible when we emerge from this pandemic.
This virus emerged through a system of human supremacy, a world in which we believed we could deforest, kill, mutate and destroy the planet around us without fear of consequence, for we’d always be able to imagine a technology to dig us out of the mess.
This moment shows us not simply the folly of such thinking, but the vital urgency of returning to an honest and humble series of relationships with the web of life.
This is, in the end, what buon vivere has always been about.
Its lessons should long outlast this pandemic.
